In 2021, Chernin Entertainment came to me with a show about Cosmopolitan Magazine editor Helen Gurley Brown. With a powerhouse actress attached as the lead and Sophie Goodhart from Sex Education writing, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to collaborate!

Helen Gurley Brown was a force of nature. As editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan for 32 years, she became a trailblazing icon of empowerment and femininity. She was unapologetically candid about her take on female sexuality, relationships, and the pursuit of personal and professional fulfillment. She came from nothing, clawed her way out, and was determined to never go back. “You know you can’t hope yourself to a better life. You must take yourself there.” She was far from perfect and proud of it.
